Rainbow - Robert Plant

My favorite song, right now.

His voice has held up so well. Plant is definitely the ultimate image of musical longevity; the new single is proof of that.

The Weight - The Band

Low-key one of the best songs of all time.

It’s storming pretty intensely here, and this sounds great.

Well, the new alt-J track is great.

Hold On I’m Coming - Sam & Dave

Summer soundtracking means all the soul and funk.

This is a perfect song.

Rent I Pay - Spoon

One of the greatest alt-rock bands of all time just released a new single, and I am very happy. Spoon just dropped this unofficial to accompany the single, and I am digging it very heavily. It’s those classic Britt Daniel vocals and some steady guitar.

The full album is titled They Want My Soul, and it’s due out August 5th.

Funeral Beds - The Districts

These kids are incredible. Best new band out there right now, for sure.

Gotta Get Away - The Black Keys

Auerbach’s divorce, as panful as it was for him, did very well for this album. This track is fire flames.

Busy Earnin’ - Jungles

Mark my words: this London duo is going to blow up in a very big way.

Bump this very loudly and get real groovy.

Rocking Chair - The Districts

I hope these kids blow up in a very big way.

I was recently talking with my good friend clairefoley, who has always had an eerily similar taste in music to my own, about the top nine albums that changed/shaped our lives in middle school. There was a period of about four years, from 2003-2007 (my middle school years), which I now refer to as the golden age of alternative rock. These are still albums that I will listen to without skipping a song. They are still perfect albums in my mind. They will never get old. Here they are:

  • Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
  • Room On Fire - The Strokes
  • Good News For People Who Love Bad News - Modest Mouse
  • Whatever They Say I Am That’s What I’m Not - Arctic Monkeys
  • The Bravery - The Bravery
  • Gimme Fiction - Spoon
  • Elephant - The White Stripes
  • Robbers and Cowards - The White Stripes
  • Get Born - Jet

Feel free to hijack/reblog this and throw your nine favorite albums in from that era. I’m curious to see what people listened to.
