The Pantalones

WIWT(Y) - This was a Spring kit for sure. My white Incotex trousers finally came back from the tailor, and they fit perfectly. Up top you’ll find a light-weight wool blazer, oxford cloth spread collar, silk pocket square, and silk tie. I’m not usually one for such intricately patterned ties, but I took a leap of faith with this one. I was happy, to say the least. After being dropped, Amy’s lens was doing some weird stuff, but some of the slightly out of focus shots came out looking fantastic.

Hanging around campus with The ELITE Club.

Check out their blog. Awesome people. Awesome cause.

Also, Ant (denim jacket) may be the sartorial second coming (maybe simultaneous coming?) of CB.

WIWT - We get casual b.

If you’re going to go untucked with your spread collar button-up, make sure it doesn’t look sloppy or blimpish. That means a tailored body, slim arms, and the right length (you can see the bottom button hitting just above my belt buckle). Photos by the lovely Amy Shusta.

WIWT(Y) - I recently acquired this vintage YSL, four on two, double breasted blazer, and I’ve been wearing the hell out of it ever since. Given the weather, I threw on a linen shirt and silk knit tie under it, stuffed a silk pocket square in the pocket, and called it a day. I absolutely love this kit, and you’ll be seeing a lot more like it as the season progresses. Photos by the lovely Amy Shusta.

I’m part of an organization/company/brand/philanthropy called The ELITE Club, and on Monday we set up a little pop-up shop in the student center at our school. The ELITE Club searches endless thrift stores to find the pieces of clothing that people really want, and then we clean them and modify them if need be. We find things that exemplify the aesthetic of the brand. However, the best thing about the organization is that half of our profits go to inner-city youth in Trenton. We help enrich their education and learning experiences, and that’s what it’s really all about.

Ant and Al consistently kill it with their own personal styles, and you can really see that translated into the brand. We had an amazing turnout to the pop-up shop, and we are truly humbled by all of the supporters. Check out The ELITE Club’s blog.

WIWT - This was the perfect spring afternoon, and my kit features some pieces classic to this kind of weather. I was on top of my Philadelphia threads game, sporting both a Commonwealth Proper bespoke shirt and unlined Irish linen tie. I was a little hesitant when pairing this shirt and tie because of the similar shade, but the subtle difference in texture and pattern worked beautifully. I really liked this kit a lot and will be going to a lot of similar options for the warmer weather. As always, photos taken by the lovely Amy Shusta.

WIWT - I had to give in and ditch any sort of jacket today. It was just so nice. Most of the time when someone wears just a shirt and pants, the kit seems kind of sloppy and uninspired. However, if you have a well constructed shirt that fits you perfectly, with an interesting fabric, it can be even more striking than a blazer. I have a couple of shirts that fit me extremely well that I can’t wait to just pop on this Spring and Summer. This is one of them, and I’m actually kind of obsessed with this fabric. It’s incredible. I also slapped on my new tassel loafers. Just because this kit is simple and casual, doesn’t mean it has to lose its integrity and cohesiveness.

The ELITE Club is an organization started by students at TCNJ, and I’m lucky enough to be doing some work with them. Albert and Ant are both awesome dudes, and it’s always great to sit down and talk style with them. They just put out a new post with some great photography and videography, so definitely check it out on The ELITE Club’s blog, and give them a follow.

A very stylish blog, for a very good cause.

WIWT - There was a classic set of layers in today’s kit (overcoat, blazer, shirt, tie), but it was all about the differences in texture that set the layers apart. Going from cashmere blend, to wool, to raw silk, to a heavy-weight cotton/linen (the shirt fabric is like nothing I have ever seen before), creates a depth to the outfit, something that color and pattern can only do so much of. Additionally, the green/blue/brown color scheme has become one of my favorites. Photographs by the lovely Amy Shusta.

WIWT - Sixty degrees is a little ridiculous for February, but I, and my wardrobe, roll with the punches. I kept it real casual and a little breezy with a classic blue, white, gray, and dark brown color palette. I paired my bespoke Commonwealth Proper shirt (very light gray stripe) with some light vintage Levi’s. This kit fit today perfectly. Photos taken by the lovely Amy Shusta.

WIWT - Absolutely perfect day to wear this windbreaker by +J. It is one of my favorite things I’ve ever bought, nearly perfect and beautifully designed. Here are some things about this WIWT:

  • Sometimes I wake up five minutes before the start of class.
  • Sometimes I forget to shave.
  • Sometimes I like to wear black.
  • Sometimes I say fuck the black and brown rule.
  • Sometimes having red hair is the greatest accessory.
  • Sometimes my friend Amy makes me look a lot better than I actually do.

WIWT - This is a vintage Paul Stuart blazer made by Southwick. It is made from some of the most beautiful tweed I have ever seen, an orange/brown and cream herringbone. The blazer features leather buttons (in perfect condition), perfect suede elbow patches, and a nice brown lapel padding. The shoulders fit perfectly, as does the drape on the back (despite what you see being pulled by my bag), and the length is perfect too. The lapels are bit bigger than lapels I normally wear, but they’re perfect for flipping and keeping warm.

Another thing I wanted to touch on is the pocket square. You can’t clearly see it in the pictures, but it’s that unfinished Marinella silk I snagged from eBay. Green and blue flowers, bordered by paisley. This post is really about my blazer. Sure there are other aspects of the kit, but when I say this is one of the most incredible jackets I have ever seen, I am not exaggerating. I had entirely too much fun shooting today with Amy. This was a great time.

WIWT - I’m not a fan of matching the colors of your tie to the colors of your shirt in the slightest. I actually hate when people do it. However, there is always an exception to the rule. I knotted up this wine colored knit over a red pencil stripe shirt, and it looked perfect. The reason it worked was because the textures and patterns varied in boldness. You can also spot some red in my pocket square and watchband. There wasn’t any obnoxious matching going on, but enough to make someone realize I put a little thought into the outfit. Overall, there was a nice variety of pattern and texture. I had a great time with Amy shooting these on such a beautiful day.

WIWT - I couldn’t resist getting a little Summer influence here. This kit is ultra comfortable and ultra casual, without losing the aspect of looking put together. It’s comprised of a deconstructed blazer, OCBD, cotton pocket square, chinos, and desert boots. This weather is ridiculous. Photos by Amy Shusta.
