WIWTOD: 5/8/13 -

Greg and I ended up on Princeton University’s campus the other day to shoot a little film. It had been raining all day, and the storm broke for about half an hour as soon as we got there. Princeton’s campus is absolutely beautiful, but the rain takes it to a whole different level. The complete soak of the downpour as we were leaving was definitely worth it. Greg got some incredible shots (more of which I will share later). Here are the details of my kit:

  • Chino blazer - Lands’ End Canvas
  • MTM poplin shirt - Neronote
  • Chinos - J.Crew
  • Silk knit - Sid Mashburn
  • Pocket square - E. Marinella
  • Loafers - Loake

I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again; I strongly recommend a brown striped shirt. It fits seamlessly into any wardrobe and is incredibly versatile, although apparently uncommon. Here, it adds another element to the classic blue blazer/red tie combo. I’d also recommend a pair of light brown chinos, in place of khaki or gray. It’s refreshing, and frankly, a lot more interesting with a navy blazer.

WIWT - 5/2/13 - New MTM Linen Cutaway from Cottonwork

If someone financed ten made to measure white linen shirts for me to wear every single day of the summer, I would really appreciate that. I’ve worn this new linen cutaway from Cottonwork three times, and the fabric is so soft and breezy. I’ve always appreciated linen, but I really want to snag a few more shirts for this summer.

The cut and collar of Cottonwork’s linen shirt is fantastic. The collar is a perfect cutaway, and along with the cuffs, is incredibly soft and comfortable. The shirt fits beautifully, leaving a little room for ventilation. I look for a shirt that fits a tiny bit looser for the summer months, and this one achieves that while still flattering the contours of my upper body. As I do with all my MTM shirts, I opted for a pocket and double button cuffs here.

If you’re looking for a solid MTM linen shirt for the summer, I’d recommend this one. It’s a fantastic cut, and it’s under a hundred bucks.

I was talking about white pants earlier today, and you’re not gonna not on a day like today. I did, and it was lightweight cotton all around. Greg and I did a little tour de campus, and he shot some incredible stuff on film.

  • Blazer - Boglioli
  • Shirt - MTM by Deo Veritas
  • Pants - Incotex
  • Shoes - Herring
  • Belt - Berg & Berg
  • Pocket Square - The Knottery
  • Mild Tan - Full day of beach volleyball
This is the kind of kit I’ll be wearing all summer. I need to get another pair of ultra-light trousers, so these ones don’t disintegrate. I also need to pick up another lightweight cotton blazer. Once you break a cotton blazer in, it feels beautiful. More full-body photographs here.

WIWT - 4/18/13

Greg wanted to take some photos today, so we went ‘splorin in the swamp with his film camera and a digital that I rented from school.

I recently mentioned that I’ve been experimenting with creating a solid shape of color or shade under a jacket or blazer. That’s exactly what I did today with some raw denim and and a dark black watch-ish shirt. I think it creates a really interesting focus point to an outfit. That may just be me though.

More photos here.
